I’ve been unlucky enough to have been in quite a few tornadoes, growing up in Kentucky. I even watched one while sitting on the runway in an airplane in Miami, waiting to take off. It’s truly remarkable to consider how powerful Mother Nature can be, and how infinitesimal we humans are when she gets angry.

I kinda felt obliged to post this, since it’s the Mother’s Day weekend and all. Thanks for the link, Tony!

1984. 8th Grade. Band class. The drummer. Since I was the only kid in school that played drums, I got put in the high school band too.

That was the scenario. Each day I’d come to class, the skinny white dork, sitting behind the row of brass instruments, played by 11th and 12th grade guys. So much I learned about African America culture that year. By the end of the first week, it was my duty to lay down the beat to this song, among many others (RUN DMC, Whodini, LL Cool J and more), while the guys stood around me and rapped. Man, did I wish I was black.

This song’s beat is still emblazoned upon my mind, as it forever shall be. Don’t forget the follow-up song, Roxanne’s Revenge.

A very catchy tune by a very cool band. And a cool video to boot!

Not sure why, but I really dig this band’s singles, ever since Portions for Foxes came out. I’m gonna try to catch them next time they come through Asheville!

Looks pretty rational to me. Even if the car did actually go by, he was standing next to it, not in front of it. However, I’d still be willing to bet Kobe Bryant actually *could* do that stunt, thought I’m sure the shoes would have nothing to do with it.
